1. Big Sur, 1959

Life Magazine
Long before the Beats made it legend, Life caught Big Sur in still frames — cabins in the fog, writers chasing solitude, and the sea itself as muse. A snapshot of bohemian America on the edge of the continent.

2. Art Amplifies Climate Voices

Yale Climate Connections
A new installation transforms climate testimony into immersive art, weaving hundreds of voices into one chorus. Proof that the gallery can be a forum — not just for beauty, but for urgency.

3. Hamad Butt at Whitechapel

Hyperallergic
Explosive, fragile, alive with danger — Hamad Butt’s work still crackles decades later. Whitechapel Gallery revisits his life-or-death art, where risk was both medium and message.

This Week’s Recipe: The Hemingway Daiquiri + Tostones with Mojo

A Hemingway Daiquiri cocktail in a coupe glass with a lime wheel garnish, served beside a plate of crispy golden tostones with a small bowl of green mojo sauce on a wooden table.

The Drink
Ernest Hemingway wasn’t known for moderation, but his namesake daiquiri is crisp, tart, and surprisingly refined.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz white rum
  • ¾ oz fresh lime juice
  • ½ oz grapefruit juice
  • ½ oz maraschino liqueur
  • Lime wheel or grapefruit twist (garnish)

Method: Shake with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Serve sharp and bright — a taste of Havana in the 1930s.

The Bite
Crispy, salty, and a little wild — tostones are twice-fried plantain rounds that pair beautifully with the daiquiri’s citrus snap.

Ingredients:

  • 2 green plantains
  • Oil for frying
  • Sea salt

Mojo Sauce:

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Pinch of salt

Method: Slice plantains into thick rounds, fry until golden, smash them flat, then fry again until crisp. Sprinkle with salt. Whisk the mojo ingredients and drizzle, or serve on the side for dipping.

Vegetarian, fast, and perfect with rum.

Until next Monday, keep the wire humming.
